Did you know that music and math are closely related? Recognizing patterns is a key skill to excelling in music and math. Mister Milton created the music in this series specifically to develop your pattern recognition skills. You find that the melodies are written based on patterns of 5 commonly used shapes. For example, a square has four sides, therefore the melody is written in a 4/4 rhythmic pattern. A hexagon has six sides so the melody is written in a 6/4 rhythmic pattern. As you listen to these melodies, while associating them with the corresponding shapes, you will begin to recognize patterns more efficiently. Developing this skill will directly translate to your critical thinking and mathematical comprehension because your brain will be calibrated to readily recognize patterns. Identifying and creating new patterns will soon become naturally integrated into the world around you as you continue to develop this important musical skill.
